The owner of a private archive – such has a private individual, a family, a foundation of an association - may also wish to limit access to it. For example, to protect the privacy of people who are still alive. The State Archives Service can provide them with advice about this and discussions with the owner address the following issues:
- Is it necessary to restrict public access?
- Should public access to the archive as a whole be restricted, or will a partial restriction suffice?
- When should the restriction lapse?
If both parties can reach agreement about these questions, the arrangement is confirmed in writing according to the relevant procedure for deposit or loan of the archive.
