Mutual Cultural Heritage

The Netherlands has a rich history and shares a mutual past with countless countrioes all over the world. Trade relations, those of de Dutch East India Company and the Dutch West India Company in particular, along with colonial relations, have left significant material and immaterial traces.

Mutual history

The remnants of the Dutch past are spread across the world. At the same time, a part of the history of other countries is to be found in the Netherlands. The heritage produced by rhus mutual history is known as Mutual Cultural Heritage (MCH). MCH comprises museological, architectural and archaeological heritage and archives.

International collaboration

The Nationaal Archief (Dutch national archives) has a tradition of international collaboration in the area of mutual cultural heritage which goes back many years. What is more, ot continues to work together with varoius partners, within the Netherlands and abroad.
