The Nationaal Archief has numerous sources that bear witness to the Netherlands’ relations with other countries through the centuries. This includes countries that used to be Dutch territory or which are still part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands today, such as Indonesia, Suriname, the Netherlands Antilles and Aruba, as well as countries with which the Netherlands had strong trading ties, such as the countries around the Baltic Sea. The National Archief maintains close contacts with these and many other countries.
Our collection is of great international significance and therefore deserves to be more widely known both in the Netherlands and abroad. The Nationaal Archief draws lasting attention to its collection and expertise by cooperating with the countries with which the Netherlands has had historical ties and by actively participating in the international networks of archival institutions.
The Nationaal Archief plays an active role in the International Council on Archives (ICA) and aims to intensify this role in the years to come.
